Coverage for Uninsured COVID-19 Patients

The CARES Act created a fund to cover uninsured COVID-19 patients. It is, “subject to availability.”  Claims can be submitted to this fund starting on May 6th, 2020. Our intent is for your claims to be the first submitted. We need your help to make this happen.

The program requires:

  • You to be registered through the uninsured portal. If you’ve seen uninsured patients, we will do this for you.

  • The patient to have COVID-19 as their primary diagnosis (U07.1, B97.29)

  • The patient’s social security or license number

  • The patient to have been seen after February 1st, 2020.

If you would like to be reimbursed for your uninsured COVID-19 patients, we need you to send us a face sheet with social security or driver’s license on it.

You can also enter a patient’s social security or driver’s license number through the demographics screen of the EMR.

To simplify things, we added a ‘COVID-19 Self-Pay Report’ to the miscellaneous report section on our reporting website. This report will show you both if we have the necessary information for the patient and if they are coded as COVID-19 patients. The COVID-19 dx code was added on April 1st, so we anticipate that some patients are coded incorrectly. If a patient’s dx codes need to be updated, please tell us to do so through the EMR.

See below for instructions on how to access the report and how to send us a message to update a patient’s diagnosis code. Once we have this information, we will get the claims processed for you. The CARES Act states that uninsured COVID-19 patients will be reimbursed at Medicare rates.
